Daughter of Zimbabwe In 1989 we were on holidays in Zimbabwe. We took a bus, packed with locals, goats and chickens. A girl, about ten years old, entered the bus, guiding her blind mother and a younger brother and carrying a gallon of water. After taking care of her family, she stared at my white blonde girlfriend a while, before falling asleep. What would she dream about? Pop with African influences
Special credits to the 9 year old Elisa-Nicole Mazarire, of the Holy Cross Convent Primary School in Windhoek, Namibia, whose voice you hear in the intro and second instrumental part of the song. Thanks to Sr. Keresencia Ngoya and Elisa-Nicole’s father, who translated the choruses from English to Shona, one of the native languages in Zimbabwe. Also special thanks to Liz King and Tim Botha, who made the recording possible!
